Bulldogs fall to FDU, 3-2, Saturday in N.J.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite winning two-straight games to push the match to a fifth set, the Bryant University volleyball team came up just short, falling to Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-2, Saturday afternoon in Hackensack, N.J.

After falling behind 2-0 to open the contest, the Bulldogs roared back with two-straight wins, topping the Knights, 25-15 in the third game and 25-22 in the fourth game. However, FDU fought back in the fifth and final game, winning the race to 15 points and picking up the 3-2 victory.

Senior Alexandria Clyburn (Cartersville, Ga.) and sophomore Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) both finished with a game-high 15 kills, while Van Dyk added a contest leading 19 digs, despite the loss. Senior Kaitlyn Klein (Modesto, Calif.) and freshmen Sara DePouw (Oconto, Wis.) combined for 23 kills (12 and 11, respectively), while junior Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) finished with a game-high 55 assists.

Alyssa Mcivor led the knights with 14 kills and 18 digs, while Violeta Slabkova chipped in with 12 kills of her own. Courtney Kovensky finished the contest with 11 kills, with Allison Butler dishing out 41 helpers in the win.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 8-22 overall, 3-8 against Northeast Conference opponents. The Black and Gold will look to snap a four game losing streak on Sunday when they wrap-up their extended road trip at Sacred Heart. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
