International trio completes incoming Bryant volleyball class

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head volleyball coach Theresa Garlacy has added a trio of international standouts to her incoming class, bringing the total number to eight for the fall of 2014.

A pair of transfers – Debora Magalhaes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Lee University) and Maya Miosga (Sonthofen, Germany/Palm Beach State) – and true freshman Natascha Scarff (Geneva, Switzerland) will join five student-athletes from across the United States to make up this fall's first-year Bulldogs.

Magalhaes arrives at Bryant after playing two seasons at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. ... Posted 263 digs in 2013 to help lead the Flames to a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) regional title and a third-place finish in the NCCAA DI National Championships ... Team played in the NAIA in 2012, winning its conference crown and finishing eighth nationally ... Played varsity volleyball throughout her time at Colegio Magnum Agostiniano in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, also competing in swimming, basketball and handball ... Played club volleyball for Minas Tenis Clube.

Miosga comes to Smithfield after spending two years at Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth, Fla. ... Played as a rookie before receiving a medical redshirt as a sophomore … Played club for TSV Sonthofen of the Regionalliga, where she started four seasons as a middle ... Team finished first or second in league in 2008-10 to move into higher league ... Finished third in the German Championship in 2009 ... Finished second on the Bavarian Championship and ninth in the German Championship in 2010 ... Also was on club skiing team and club gymnastics as a freshman.

Scarff spent five years playing in the Swiss National League prior to arriving at Bryant ... Won the U21 Swiss Championship in 2014, finishing eighth in the First National Division ... Won the U21, U19 and Second National Division Championships in 2013 ... Finished third in the Swiss U21 Championship in 2012 and 10th in the U19 Swiss Championship ... In 2011, led team to third-place finish at the Swiss U17 Championship ... Finished sixth in 2010 in the 8-Nations Tournament with the Youth National Team ... Named the U17 MVP at the Geneva Championship in 2009 and 2010 ... Named Best Outside Hitter at international tournament in France (TIC) ... Finished fifth at the Swiss Beach Volleyball Championship in 2013.
