Flynn and Kennedy combine for 35 kills in loss to Colgate

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Bryant University volleyball team was defeated in four sets by Colgate Saturday in the Bulldogs' final match of the Stony Brook Invite.

Match Information
Colgate 3, Bryant 1 (25-27, 22-25, 25-18, 20-25)

Records: Bryant (9-6); Colgate (5-6)

Location: Pritchard Gymnasium (Stony Brook, N.Y.)

Coach Garlacy's Comments
"We played smart and scrappy and fought hard every point. Julia Flynn played like the leader she is, making veteran plays and mixing it up with power. Erika Ward was nails on defense and kept so many plays alive with her cover. Brianna Bruny did a great job blocking and making herself available. The setters ran a great tempo and played great defense."

How it Happened

  • Set 1 – Bryant led 13-12 before an 8-2 Colgate run gave the Raiders a five-point advantage. Kills from senior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) tied the set both at 24 and 25, but Colgate was able to close out a 27-25 victory.
  • Set 2 – The Raiders took the second set 25-22 again with a late run. After the Bulldogs went up 16-15 on a senior Julia Malet (San Rafael, Calif.) ace, Colgate went on a four-point run to go up three, a margin that would allow them to keep the Bulldogs at a distance the rest of the way.
  • Set 3 – It was Bryant's turn for a late run in the third set, outscoring Colgate 16-2 after the Raiders had a 16-9 advantage. Flynn recorded kills on three of the last four points, giving Bryant the set victory.
  • Set 4 – A 7-2 Raiders run in the middle of the set gave Colgate a 16-11 lead in the middle of the set and the Raiders kept the Bulldogs at bay the rest of the way.
