Flynn tallies 21 kills in Bryant's sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Redshirt-senior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) posted a season-high 21 kills as the Bryant University volleyball team closed a road NEC weekend with a sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn Saturday afternoon.

Flynn hit .474 (21-3-38) in the match to lead the Bulldog attack and moved to within eight kills of 1,000 for her collegiate career.

Match Information
Bryant 3, St. Francis Brooklyn 0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22)
Records: Bryant (13-8, 3-1); St. Francis Brooklyn (5-12, 1-3)
Location: Genovesi Center (Brooklyn, N.Y.)

Coach Garlacy's Comments
"Julia Flynn played like the leader that she is today and was unstoppable at the net. Erika Ward set the tone with her big-time digs and infectious energy, constantly urging her teammates on. Grace Richmeyer hit .545 and did a great job getting diggable touches."

How it Happened

  • Set 1 – Bryant trailed 9-8 before a 7-2 run put the Bulldogs ahead four on a kill from senior Grace Richmeyer (DeSoto, Mo.). The Bulldogs would lead by at least two the rest of the way, as Bryant hit .355 in a 25-21 opening set.
  • Set 2 – St. Francis pulled to within 16-15 before kills from Flynn and Richmeyer and a block from Richmeyer and senior Kirstyn Sperry (Phoenix, Ariz.) pushed the lead to four. The Terriers would cut it to 20-19 before Bryant scored five of the final six points of the set in a 25-20 win to go up 2-0.
  • Set 3 – The Terriers tied the set at 19 on an overturned challenge review and went ahead 20-19 on a block, but a pair of kills from freshman Jenna Knight (Scottsdale, Ariz.) put the Bulldogs up one. Flynn followed with a kill and the Bulldogs closed out a 25-22 third-set victory on a Richmeyer kill.

Stats/Notes

  • Flynn recorded 21 kills on a .474 hitting percentage while adding two aces.
  • Richmeyer had six kills on a .545 hitting percentage (6-0-11).
