Letters from alumnae: Tiffany Garry

Each Thursday this summer, Bryant University Volleyball alumnae will reflect on their experiences as a student-athlete at Bryant and playing for Coach Garlacy.

This Thursday's installment is from Tiffany Garry, who played at Bryant from 2004-07.

"There is a major difference between a coach and a great coach. Being a great coach is so much more than training student athletes. It is taking on the tremendous responsibility of the physical and mental health, overall wellbeing, and futures of young teenagers during the most pivotal points in their lives.

"Theresa Garlacy is a GREAT coach who continuously takes on that critical transition, mentoring and shaping rebellious teenagers with dreams into respectable young adults who carry themselves with pride, embody leadership and loyalty, and the developed skills, qualities, and tenacity to make those dreams reality. My experience playing for Theresa and attending Bryant University allowed me to transition from a young student-athlete to a strong confident career woman on a leadership team in a male-dominant field and industry. Those four years were one of the best times in my life and that experience continues to empower me to live out my career dreams and expand my profession as an executive leader and reach levels of success I never thought possible.

"For these reasons and many more Theresa Garlacy will always be my coach. She is my mentor, leader, family, and dear friend for life. Ask her, I just called her this week for some advice! She is still just as involved in my life as she was 15 years ago, and for that, I am grateful."

Bryant begins its 2019 season Friday, Aug. 30, when the Bulldogs face San Diego State in a tournament hosted by FGCU in Fort Myers, Florida. The Bulldogs' home opener will be Friday, Sept. 6, when Bryant hosts North Dakota in its first match of the Hampton Inn-vitational.
