Ward, Castro earn NEC Player of the Week honors

SOMERSET, N.J. – Senior Erika Ward and freshman Fabiana Castro of the Bryant University volleyball team earned Northeast Conference Player of the Week honors for their efforts at Fairleigh Dickinson, as announced by the conference office.

Ward was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week after posting a season-high 28 digs at FDU. The mark is the most digs that any NEC player has posted in a single match this season. Ward combined for 49 digs and seven assists in the doubleheader as she continues to anchor Bryant's defense.

The NEC Rookie of the Week honor was awarded to Castro as she posted her first career double-double in the first match at FDU. The freshman had a career game with a career-high 14 kills and 15 digs on Wednesday. In the second match, Castro posted nine kills, 14 digs, and three blocks to help the Bulldogs break its all-time single-match block record. She also notched a pair of assists across the doubleheader and one service ace.

Ward, Castro, and the rest of the Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they host Central Connecticut.
