Ward, Castro second-straight NEC weekly honors

SOMERSET, N.J. – Freshman Fabiana Castro and senior Erika Ward earned their second-straight Northeast Conference Player of the Week accolades, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Ward shares NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week with Central Connecticut's Ashlyn Eisenga. Ward helped the Bulldogs split with CCSU last week as she posted a combined 57 digs, including a career-best 34 in the first match of the doubleheader to go along with four assists. In the second match, Ward posted 23 digs and two assists. Ward ranks third in the NEC and 30th in the country with 5.24 digs per set and she is the first Bulldog in Bryant's Division I history to earn back-to-back NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors. 

Castro hit .133 off 10 kills in the first match against Central Connecticut along with eight digs, two service aces, and one assist. In the second match, Castro tallied five kills, 13 digs, and one service ace. Castro is the first rookie since Caroline Kennedy in 2018 to earn back-to-back NEC Rookie of the Week honors.

The Bulldogs close out the regular season this Wednesday, March 31 when they host LIU for a doubleheader. Bryant will honor its two seniors, Mackenzie Wild and Ward, before the start of the first match at 2 p.m.
