Volleyball Heads to UConn Tournament on Friday

STORRS, CT.- The Bryant women's volleyball team will travel to the University of Connecticut to take part in the "Dog Pound Challenge" this weekend. In addition to the host Huskies, Bryant will face Yale and New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Bryant posted a season high 55 assists in their last match against Fairfield. Mia Cergol led the way with 45 assists.

  • With only a few matches left until conference play, Bryant leads the NEC in total assists (464) and kills (510). They also lead in assist rate (11.90 per set) and kill rate (13.08 per set).

  • Riley James leads the Bulldogs and is tied for fifth in the conference with 99 kills. Her 2.54 kills per set also lead Bryant and are top ten in the NEC.

  • Bryant goes into the Dog Pound Challenge with a 28-18 record against teams with dog mascots since joining Division I.

 

UConn Match Preview: Scouting the Huskies

  • UConn is 5-4 to start the season. They went 4-7 last year, including 4-4 in the Big East.

  • Senior middle blocker Kennadie Jake-Turner leads the Huskies with 36 total blocks, and is third on the team in kills (75) and second in service aces (10).

  • Bryant is 0-3 (0-2 DI) against UConn all-time. Their last meeting was a 3-1 match in Storrs in 2015.

Yale Preview: Scouting the Bulldogs

  • Yale is 5-1 on the season, including a sweep of the Stony Brook Invitational last weekend. They went 15-8 (11-2 Ivy) in 2019, winning a share of their third straight league title.

  • Player to Watch: Freshman middle hitter Gigi Barr leads the Bulldogs with 13 total blocks and is second on the team with 51 kills.

  • Yale's Renee and Cara Shultz and Bryant's Alysa Wright were high school teammates at Bishop Shanahan (PA), where they twice advanced to the PIAA state finals.

  • Bryant and Yale have squared off one time, back in 1985. It was a 2-1 win for Yale.

NJIT Preview: Scouting the Highlanders

  • NJIT is 1-8 to start the season. They went 3-10 (3-9 America East) last season.

  • Player to Watch: Junior right side Adriana Goetz-Morales leads the Highlanders with 66 kills on the season. She is also second on the team in service aces (nine) and third in blocks (19).

  • Bryant and NJIT have played once before, a 3-0 win for the Highlanders in New Jersey back in 2008.
