Volleyball Begins Conference Play at Home

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team opens conference play this weekend as they host Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut State.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs go into conference play leading the NEC in assists (631 overall, 11.91 per set) and kills (693 overall, 13.08 per set). They are also second in the conference in attack percentage (.198).

  • Alysa Wright leads the NEC with a .315 attack percentage. She is also fourth in the conference with 1.08 blocks per set (57 total). 

  • Abby Rae is third in the conference in service aces (19 total, 0.36 per set) and sixth in digs (203 total, 3.83 per set).

  • Mia Cergol is fourth in the NEC with her 7.28 assists per set (386 total). She and Riley James are tied for seventh in service aces (18 total, 0.34 per set).

  • Emma McGovern and Caroline Kennedy are both top ten in the conference in kills. McGovern is eighth (144 total, 2.72 per set) and Kennedy is tenth (132 total, 2.49 per set).

SHU Match Preview: Scouting the Pioneers

  • Sacred Heart is off to a 6-5 start to the  season. They went 11-3 (10-0 NEC) last year, winning the conference title.

  • Player to Watch: Senior setter Sarah Ciszek was last season's NEC Player of the Year. She currently leads the Pioneers and is third in the conference with 8.60 assists per set (361 total). She also leads the team with 12 service aces and is third on the team in kills, blocks, and digs.

  • Bryant is 26-21 all-time against Sacred Heart, including 8-19 in Division I play. The Pioneers took both matches against the Bulldogs last season.

CCSU Match Preview: Scouting the Blue Devils

  • CCSU is 3-9 to start the  season. They were 4-4 (4-4 NEC) last season.

  • Player to Watch: Redshirt freshman middle blocker Nyjha Marcelin leads the Blue Devils with 145 kills this season, and is also second on the team with 29 total blocks. Her 3.02 kills per set are fifth best in the NEC.

  • Bryant is 11-19 (10-17 DI) all-time against CCSU. They split their two matchups last season.
