XC/TF announces remainder of Class of 2020

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Mitchell Switzer is pleased to announce the signing of 12 student-athletes to complete the incoming Class of 2020.

"We are very excited to welcome this next round of Bulldogs to our XCTF Program," Switzer said. "They span across event groups and each bring their own element of success to our program. We expect them to make an immediate impact in our program, as well as continue to develop during their time at Bryant. As we build off of the success we have had in the past few years, I am confident this group will allow us to continue pushing the program forward."

This round of signees includes Wyatt Boelens, Brian Murray, Christopher Wrenn, Olivia Weiss, James Giumetti, Jackie Robert, Kyle Walker, Breann Campise, Turner Davis, Kyle McCarthy, Lindsay Mahoney and Abigail Taylor. The group joins Jacklyn Sullivan and Emily Cluck, who signed during the November signing period.

Boelens is a Bolton, Mass., native and graduated from Nashoba Regional High School. He won the Massachusetts state title in the discus as a junior and finished in second place as a senior. Boelens went on to finish fifth at the New England Championships as a junior and has personal-bests of 159'1" in the discus and 50'11" in the shot put. He is a two-time MIAA Western/Central Division I champion.

A Westford, Mass., native and a graduate of Westford Academy, Murray finished fourth in the 300m at the Massachusetts Division I Indoor Championships this past winter. He won the Dual County League title in the 200m as a junior and has PRs of 36.10 in the 300 and 22.92 in the 200.

Wrenn raced to a second-place finish in the 600m at the MIAA Division 4 Indoor Championships this winter and was the Tri-Valley League Champion in the event. A native of Norton, Mass., Wrenn graduated from Norton High School and holds PRs of 1:23.38 in the 600, 2:40.55 in the 1000m and 16:12.28 in the 5k. He finished 14th in the MIAA State Cross Country race.

Weiss graduated from Newton High School in Newton, N.J., and was a three-time champion at the NJSIAA Sectionals North 1 Groups 1&4 Indoor Championships this winter. She won the 800m, 1600 and the 3200m. She also finished fourth in the 800m at the Groups 2&3 meet and was the 1600m champion in the same meet as a junior. Weiss holds PRs of 2:18.39 in the 800, 5:12.01 in the 1600 and 11:20.50 in the 3200.

Both Sullivan and Cluck have had outstanding senior years since signing in the November. Sullivan was part of the sprint medley relay team at Plymouth North that set the Massachusetts state record for all divisions. She also finished third in the 600m at the MIAA state championships and the New England Championships, while also qualifying for the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the 400m. Cluck went on to win the New York state title in the 400m this spring.

Giumetti comes to Smithfield from Duxbury, Mass., and Duxbury High School. He will compete in the long and triple jumps and try to fill the void left by the graduation of Adam Malone.

Robert comes from Rowley, Mass., the same hometown as current Bulldog Elizabeth Willmonton, and is a Triton Regional School graduate. She is a three-time Cape Ann League All-Star and qualified for the state championships in the javelin as a junior.

Walker is a Colchester, Vt., native and graduated from Colchester High School. He will compete in the sprints during his first year at Bryant.

Campise went to Tolland High School in Tolland, Conn., and will compete in cross country as well as track and field. She was a member of dominant Tolland team that four state titles and three open state titles during her tenure. Campise was all-conference selection during her junior year.

Davis also comes to Smithfield from the Nutmeg State. He went to Westbrook High School and will compete in the sprints and jumps. Davis is a two-time all-conference selection in the high jump and set school records in the 300m and 400m.

McCarthy is a native of Andover, Mass., and went to Andover High School. She will compete in the sprints as a Bulldog.

Taylor joins the Bulldogs after a year at Susquehanna University. A Ridgewood, N.J., native, Taylor competed in the distance events during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. She ran the mile, 3k, 5k, 1500 and the 10k at Susquehanna and will also compete in cross country at Bryant.
