MAKING THE GRADE

Bryant places 27 student-athletes on NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll, five on Commissioner's Honor Roll

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Twenty-seven more Bryant University student-athletes earned academic recognition from the Northeast Conference, as the league released its winter academic honor roll Wednesday. Among the 27 were five standout Bulldogs who were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, distinguishing student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or above.

The NEC Academic Honor Roll consists of student-athletes who have maintained a GPA of 3.20 or above, and the league saw more than a seven percent increase from last winter, with 588 student-athletes making the grade. Of those athletes, 137 were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Bryant’s 27 winter honor roll selections bring the 2010-11 total to 101 through two of three playing seasons.

The five Bulldogs to earn NEC Commissioner’s Honor Roll distinction all came from the indoor track and field ranks and include two freshmen, two sophomores and a senior. Sophomore Colin Gannon (Litchfield, Conn.) and senior Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.) represent the men’s side, while rookies Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and Lauren Ganim (Trumbull, Conn.) join sophomore Megan Robertson (Sewell, N.J.) from the women’s roster. All five repeat as Commissioner’s Honor Roll members after garnering the honor in the fall as members of the Bryant cross country team.

Men’s indoor track and field leads the way in NEC Academic Honor Roll selections, placing 14 on the list, while six of their female counterparts were recognized. Four women’s swimmers qualified for the distinction, while a trio of women’s basketball players were tabbed on the exclusive roll call.
