Bulldogs excel in the classroom as 78 fall student-athletes earn Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll recognitions

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A total of 78 Bryant University student-athletes were named to the Northeast Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 13 who earned Commissioner's Honor Roll distinctions, as announced by league officials Tuesday.

The NEC Academic Honor Roll consists of student-athletes who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above, and the league saw a two percent increase with 849 fall student-athletes qualifying for the distinction in 2011. Of those 849 student-athletes, 215 were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, an accolade that recognizes those who have maintained a GPA of 3.75 or above.

The Commissioner's Honor Roll saw a staggering 22 percent increase from the fall of 2010, and of the 13 Bulldog student-athletes earning the prestigious distinction, at least one came from each of the seven fall programs. Bryant's list of Commissioner's Honor Roll honorees features seven freshmen, four sophomores, a junior and one senior.

Men's soccer led the way with three qualifiers in sophomore Terence Morrissey, and freshmen Lucas Guerriero and Seth Wing. Men's cross country (Michael DiTocco and Colin Gannon), women's cross country (Eimear Black and Brooke Tomasetti), football (Richard Casiello and Julien Dumont), and volleyball (Marisa Ebli and Mikayla LaRosa) all had a pair on the exclusive roll call, while rookies Emily Clark and Samantha Shaw represented field hockey and women's soccer, respectively.

Bryant football placed 21 student-athletes on the NEC Academic Honor Roll to lead the pack, while women's soccer saw 16 and men's soccer saw 10 make the list. Field hockey earned nine selections, while men's cross country took eight and both women's cross country and volleyball saw seven make the grade.
