Baseball Defeats Assumption 10-3 Tuesday Afternoon

SMITHFIELD, RI - Adam Rourke (Rowley,
Mass) went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs to help lead the
Bryant University baseball team to a 10-3 win over Assumption
College here Tuesday afternoon. Mickey Ryan (Lowell,
Mass), Paul Novakowski (Prospect, CT) and
Chris Neil (Cambridge, Mass) each added a pair of
hits while Luke Cowan (Wilton, CT) pitched well in
relief for the Bulldogs who won for the fourth time in their last
five games.
Assumption (10-27, 9-17 NE-10) chased Bryant starter Eric Loh with
three runs in the first inning as Matt Cavallaro (West
Haven, CT) and Paul Qualieri (Shrewsbury,
Mass) each had RBIs singles in the inning. Cowan
would close the door on the Greyhounds, pitching six-plus innings
of scoreless relieft to pick up his third win of the season.
Cowan allowed just three hits while Brian
Fioretti
(Huntington,
NY) pitched a scoreless eighth
and Josh Longstaff closed the
door with a scoreless ninth.
Trailing 3-1, Bryant would regain the lead with a three-run third
inning and added a single run in the sixth and pushed across three
more in the seventh. Daryle Crowley (Danvers,
Mass) got things started with an RBI single to left and
following an RBI single by Novakowski, Crowley came across to score
on a sacrifice fly by Mike Rocco (Tewksbury,
Mass).
Cavallaro and Quaglieri each had a pair of hits on the afternoon
while Chris Colabello
(Milford,
Mass.) notched the 200th hit of
his career in the fifth. Bryant (21-17, 15-11 NE-10) will
host Stonehill on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) at the Bryant Baseball
Complex.
