Baseball Splits With UMass Lowell Friday Night

Baseball Splits Doubleheader With UMass Lowell, Winning 5-4 In Opener and Falling 2-1 in Nightcap Friday

LOWELL, Mass. -  The Bryant baseball team split with UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader Friday, winning the opener 5-4, and falling 2-1 in the second despite a strong pitching performance from sophomore Matt Gaynor.

In the first game, Adam Rourke went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored to lead the Bryant baseball team to a 5-4 win as David Rappoli picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Daryle Crowley added a pair of hits as the Bulldogs had 13 in the ballgame.  Rappoli went eight innings to pick up his third win of the season while Luke Cowan came on in the ninth, getting Sean Patno to strike out looking with the tying run on second to preserve the win.

In the nightcap, Gaynor went eight innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) and striking out five but it was not enough as the Bulldogs, despite out-hitting the host River Hawks, could manage just one run.  Rourke and Mike Rocco each had a pair of hits on the night.

Saturday's home game with UMass Lowell has been rescheduled for Monday at the Bryant Baseball Complex starting at 3:30 p.m.
