Baseball Wins Sixth Straight 10-4 over Stonehill College
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant Baseball team broke a 3-3 deadlock with seven runs in the eighth inning for a 10-4 victory over Stonehill College Friday afternoon.
The win gives the Bulldogs 20 victories on the season and six straight.
With one out in the eighth, LF T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass.), C Jeff Vigurs (South Windsor, CT) and 1B Mike Rocco (Tewksbury, Mass.) all singled to load the bases for RF Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass) who beat out an infield hit to give the Bulldogs their first lead.
DH Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass.) followed with an infield single of his own to score Vigurs, and 3B Jay Alexander (Simsbury, CT) was hit by a pitch to plate Rocco with the third run of the inning. After 2B Dylan Stone (Portsmouth, RI) reached on an error, SS Pat McKenna (Orange, CT) put the game away with a two-run single.
Eric Loh (Old Greenwich, CT) (4-1) picked up his fourth straight win, pitching eight innings, while giving up three runs and striking out four.
Trailing 3-1 in the fourth, Bryant tied the game up after Rocco slammed a ball off the fence in left-center, and Ferguson followed with a triple to deep center. Dondero hit a sacrifice fly to score Ferguson and tie the game.
Ferguson, Dondero, and McKenna all had two RBIs.
Ferguson's triple was his seventh, a new Bryant record for triple in a season.
With two hits, Rocco inched closer to the 200-hit milestone. He needs two more to become the fifth Bulldog to have 200 hits.
The Bulldogs (20-12, 13-3 NE-10) will host Southern N.H. in a doubleheader Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
