Bulldogs Sweep Doubleheader from Southern N.H.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant baseball team won its seventh and eighth straight game, sweeping Southern New Hampshire in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Bryant Baseball Complex.

Sunday's game against the Penmen has been postponed due to the forecast of heavy rain.

The Bulldogs rallied for two runs in the tenth inning to edge the Penmen 3-1 in the first game.

With one out and 3B Jay Alexander (Simsbury, CT) on second, SS Pat McKenna (Orange, CT) rocketed a ball off the right-field wall to give the Bulldogs the lead. LF T.J. Magnell (Leominster, Mass.) would follow with a single up the middle that plated CF Nick Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) with an insurance run.

Adam Vuolo (Walpole, Mass.) retired the Penmen in order for his ninth save. Eric Polvani (Wallingford, CT) threw two perfect innings of relief and picked up his fourth win of the season.

Kevin Cobb (Acton, Mass.) started for Bryant, throwing seven innings, while allowing just one run and striking out five.

With his ninth save of the season, Vuolo tied the school record for saves in a season.

In the second game, Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, Mass.) hurled a complete-game six-hitter for his fourth win of the season and first collegiate shutout and complete game.

The Bulldogs got on the board when DH Mark Dondero (Medfield, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly that brought home RF Taylor Ferguson (Charlton, Mass.) in the fourth inning.

Campbell hit a sac fly in the seventh that plated 2B Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton, Mass.) with the second run.

Bryant pushed three more runs across in the ninth as Campbell, Rocco, and 1B Mike Rocco (Tewksbury, Mass.) each drove home runs.

Rocco needs one more hit to become the fifth Bulldog to reach 200 career hits.

The Bulldogs (22-12, 14-3 NE-10) will host Bentley Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) after Sunday's postponement.
