BULLDOGS FALL TO OKLAHOMA STATE, 8-0, IN SEASON OPENER

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After three innings of scoreless play, Oklahoma State broke out for seven runs in a two-inning span and never looked back as the Bryant University baseball team fell to the Cowboys, 8-0, Friday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium in the season opener.

Sophomore Peter Kelich (Jackson, N.J.) started off strong on the mound for the Bulldogs, limiting the Cowboys to just one hit in the first three innings, until the home side put up a pair of runs in the fourth to make it 2-0. After reaching on a hit by pitch, Davis Duran advanced to second on a failed pickoff move and then to third on a wild pitch, allowing Zach Johnson to drive in the first run of the game one batter later. Luis Uribe tacked on the second run of the inning on an infield single.

The Cowboys struck again in the bottom of the fifth with five unearned runs as Dane Phillips and Mark Ginther each drove in a pair to make in 7-0. Oklahoma St. added another run in the bottom of the seventh on a single from Phillips to secure the victory.   

Starter Brad Propst allowed six hits in six scoreless innings to pick up the win while Kelich was touched for two earned runs in 4.2 innings of work for the Bulldogs.

Bryant center fielder Jordan English (Windsor Locks, Conn.) provided a bulk of the offense for the visitors with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

The Bulldogs and Cowboys meet again tomorrow at Reynolds Stadium. Bryant will send freshman Craig Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) to the hill while Andrew Heaney will go for the Cowboys.  First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. (CT).
