Eight Bulldogs named to NEIBA All-New England team

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Led by junior first baseman Robby Rinn (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore utility Brandon Bingel (Peabody, Mass.), the Bryant University baseball team placed eight players on the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-New England teams, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Rinn and Bingel were both first team selections, while sophomore second baseman Cole Fabio (Mahwah, N.J.), senior outfielder Jordan Mountford (Guelph, Ont.), junior pitcher Kyle Wilcox (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and freshman pitcher James Karinchak (Walden, N.Y.) were second team selections. Junior catcher Buck McCarthy (Saugus, Mass.) and sophomore outfielder Matt Albanese (East Haddam, Conn.) were named to the third team.

Rinn has put together the best offensive season of his career so far in 2015, batting .335 with 18 doubles, seven home runs, 41 RBI and 42 runs scored. He has set career highs in each of those categories and has committed just three errors in 380 chances at first base.

Bingel is enjoying a breakout year as a third baseman and a pitcher for the Black and Gold. He is hitting .316 with eight doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 28 RBI and 36 runs scored offensively. On the mound, he has won his last three starts and is 4-2 with a 3.89 ERA in 39.1 innings. Bingel has struck out 24 and walked 14.

A third-team selection a year ago, Fabio garners second team honors this spring. He leads the team with a .350 average and 62 hits, while collecting 11 doubles, four triples and two home runs. Fabio has also registered career-highs in RBI (28) and runs scored (43).

Mountford clubbed 28 extra-base hits on his way to the first All-New England honor of his career. He hit .305 with 17 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 40 RBI, 45 runs scored and 15 stolen bases. Mountford has reached base safely in 90 of his last 101 games dating back to 2013.

Wilcox and Karinchak combined to give the Black and Gold a dominant starting duo this spring. Wilcox is 7-1 with a 2.77 ERA and a .199 opponent batting average, while Karinchak is 7-5 with a 3.39 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 71.2 innings. Karinchak has thrown a Bryant Division I record six complete games and also has three shutouts to his name.

McCarthy and Albanese both earn the second All-New England honors of their careers. A first team DH a year ago, McCarthy makes the third team this spring as a catcher. He is hitting .298 with 11 doubles, five home runs, 33 RBI and 19 runs scored. McCarthy has also posted 24 walks and a .407 OBP. Albanese has battled injuries all year long but has still managed to hit .328 with nine doubles, three triples, five home runs, 28 RBI and 33 runs scored.
