Bulldogs in pro ball mid-summer update

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With the MLB All-Star Game right around the corner, Bryant Athletics will take a look at several former Bulldogs who are competing in professional baseball.

Kevin McAvoy ('14) – Salem Red Sox (Carolina League)

McAvoy is 5-7 with a 4.08 ERA in 16 starts this year in Salem. He has allowed 45 runs on 82 hits, has walked 46 and struck out 50 over 86 innings. McAvoy earned his first professional victory on April 26 when he allowed one run on four hits over 5.2 innings against Carolina. He allowed just one hit and struck out five over seven scoreless innings in his most dominant start of the season against Winston Salem.

Kevin Brown ('13) – Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Carolina League)

Brown opened the season in Triple A with the Iowa Cubs but has spent a majority of the season in Myrtle Beach. In seven games in Iowa, Brown went 4-for-11 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. In 44 games with the Pelicans, Brown is hitting .237 with five doubles, two triples, two home runs, 15 RBI and 17 runs scored. Brown enjoyed a big day on July 11, going 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI against Carolina. He was named the Carolina League Player of the Week on June 1.

Tom Gavitt ('14) – Arizona League Athletics (Arizona Rookie League)

Gavitt missed all of the 2014 season with an injury and is currently playing for the Athletics in the Arizona Rookie League. He is 5-for-23 with a double in seven games played.

Kyle Wilcox ('15) – Everett AquaSox (Northwest League)

Wilcox has opened his professional career with a bang for the Seattle Mariners shortseason affiliate in Everett. He is currently 1-0 with three saves and a 5.40 ERA in five games and 6.2 innings. Wilcox has allowed four runs on six hits, walked four and struck out seven. He picked up a pair of saves in his first two professional appearances on June 21 and June 24 before earning his first professional victory on June 29.

Trevor Lacosse ('15) – Gulf Coast League Marlins (Gulf Coast League)

Lacosse opened his professional career in the Gulf Coast League with the Marlins. He is 1-1 with a 7.11 ERA in four appearances so far. Lacosse has allowed seven runs (five earned) on nine hits over 6.1 innings. He earned his first professional victory on July 3.
