Summer baseball midseason report

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – With the summer baseball season in full swing, Bryant Athletics takes a look at how the Bulldogs are performing around the country.

Cape Cod Baseball League

Matt Albanese (East Haddam, Conn.) is enjoying a strong summer for the Cotuit Kettleers, hitting .240 in 23 games. He has five doubles, a home run, 10 RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases.

Cole Fabio (Mahwah, N.J.) started his summer in Harwich but is now teammates with Albanese in Cotuit. He went 3-for-17 with a double and two runs scored in Harwich and is 2-for-18 with two runs scored in Cotuit.

New England Collegiate Baseball League

Buck McCarthy (Saugus, Mass.) is hitting .187 with a home run, four RBI and five runs scored for the Ocean State Waves. He has also drawn 12 walks and has a .319 OBP.

Oliver Powers (Newtown, Conn.) has made five appearances out of the bullpen for the Waves. He has allowed six runs on six hits over five innings.

James Karinchak (Walden, N.Y.) has put together a dominating summer so far in Newport. He is 4-1 with a 0.72 ERA in 25 innings. He has allowed three runs on 17 hits with 27 strikeouts and just 13 walks. Karinchak has tossed five shutout innings in four of his starts and allowed three runs over five innings in his other outing. He struck out nine and allowed just two hits in his last start.

Dan Cellucci (Sudbury, Mass.) is hitting .209 in 21 games for Keene. He has a double, three RBI and seven runs scored. Cellucci has also drawn 11 walks and posted three stolen bases.

Garrison Banas (Hadley, Mass.) has made seven appearances and one start for Vermont. He is 0-2 with an 8.67 ERA in 9.1 innings. He has allowed just seven hits and struck out seven.

Brandon Bingel (Peabody, Mass.) played in nine games and made two starts for Sanford before getting shutdown for the summer. He went 4-for-24 at the plate and 1-1 on the mound. Bingel walked two and struck out eight over 10.2 innings.

AJ Zarozny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has scored six runs and drawn seven walks for Plymouth.

Ryan Johnson (East Falmouth, Mass.) has posted a solid summer for Plymouth. He has appeared in eight games and has yet to allow an earned run in 9.1 innings. Johnson has allowed 10 hits, walked four and struck out seven.

Futures Collegiate Baseball League

Daniel Palazzo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) is hitting .203 and leads Pittsfield with 14 walks and is second on the team with five hit by pitches.

Zane Smith (Ilion, N.Y.) has a home run, triple and seven RBI for Pittsfield.

Joseph Paparelli (Preston, Conn.) is hitting .216 with four doubles, a triple, two home runs, 14 RBI and 11 runs scored for Torrington. He has walked 20 times and leads the team with 11 stolen bases.

Zach Wood (Griswold, Conn.) is also with Torrington and is hitting .228 with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored. He has posted 18 walks and a .377 OBP.

Justin Snyder (Georgetown, Mass.) has been a key pitcher for Nashua this summer. He is 1-1 with two saves and a 3.52 ERA in 10 appearances. He has allowed 20 hits, walked 11 and struck out 17 over 23 innings. Snyder has allowed just eight hits over his last 13.1 innings.

Northwoods Collegiate League

James Davitt (Wallingford, Conn.) is shining for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in the Northwoods League. He is 2-1 with two saves and a 3.71 ERA in nine appearances, one start. Davitt has allowed 22 hits, struck out 31 and walked just four in 26.2 innings. In his first appearance of the summer, Davitt struck out nine over seven innings of relief. Two weeks later, he allowed just one baserunner and struck out nine over 5.1 innings of relief.

Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League

Michael Lanza (Elmsford, N.Y.) has four doubles, seven RBI and 11 runs scored for the Newark Pilots. He has walked eight times as well.

Hamptons League

Ross Weiner (Woodbridge, Conn.) is 2-5 with a 4.40 ERA in seven appearances for Montauk. He has made five starts and has struck out 18 in 30.2 innings.
