Karinchak named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball sophomore James Karinchak (Walden, N.Y.) has earned Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors after tying a Division I program record with 13 strikeouts in the Bulldogs' 12-2 victory over George Mason last Friday.

Karinchak becomes the third player in Bryant DI history to earn recognition from Louisville Slugger, joining Matt Albanese (2015) and Kevin Brown (2013). It is the first national weekly honor for Karinchak in his career.

He dominated the Patriots on Friday, setting a new career high while tying the previous record that was set by Eric Polvani during the 2010 season. Karinchak allowed just one hit and walked three over six scoreless innings to improve to 3-0 on the year. In 18 innings, he has allowed two runs on 10 hits, walked five and struck out 26.

Karinchak walked the first batter of the game before retiring the next 13 batters in order in Friday's opener against Mason. He struck out eight of the 13 and fanned the side in the final two innings of his outing. Karinchak's previous career high was 10, a number he reached twice as a freshman in 2015.
