Bulldogs face Blue Hens Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

GAME NOTES

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team continues its spring break trip on Wednesday as it visits the University of Delaware on Wednesday, Mar. 16. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

The Bulldogs (9-4) and the Blue Hens (11-4) will be meeting for the second time in program history on Wednesday. Bryant took three of four from the Delaware during the 2014 season.

On Wednesday, two teams that are off to incredible starts will face each other. The Bulldogs 13-game start is tied for the best in DI program history, while the Blue Hens are off to their best start since the 1998 season. Delaware continued that streak with an 8-3 victory over winless Delaware State on Tuesday afternoon. Bryant enters the game following a 1-2 weekend against Maryland.

The Blue Hens, who have won seven-straight entering the game, have hit the ball well this season and enter the game with a .289 team average and have scored nearly seven runs a game. Jordan Glover leads the team with a .373 average, eight doubles and 15 RBI. Kevin Mohollen has produced three doubles, three triples, 16 runs scored and five stolen bases.

On the mound, the Black and Gold will face sophomore lefty Matt Hornich. He is 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA, six walks and four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings. He tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win against Maryland last week. As a team, Delaware enters the game with an ERA of 4.34.

For the Bulldogs, junior Matt Albanese (East Haddam, Conn.) and senior Dan Cellucci (Sudbury, Mass.) are both coming off strong weekends against Maryland. Albanese had two doubles and drove in five, while Cellucci finished the weekend 5-for-10 with two runs scored. Bryant is hitting just .261 as a team but rank 12th in the country in doubles per game and 43rd in total doubles with 33.

Freshman Steve Theetge (Cicero, N.Y.) will make his second-career start on Wednesday for the Black and Gold. Theetge pitched a scoreless inning of relief and struck out two in his last outing against Maryland last Saturday. He is 0-0 with a 4.82 ERA, seven strikeouts and six walks in 9 1/3 innings.

Since moving to the Division I level in 2009, the Bulldogs are 14-5 against current members of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
