McCarthy earns NEC, NEIBA and ECAC Player of the Week honors after monster performance at FDU

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Buck McCarthy (Saugus, Mass.) of the Bryant University baseball team has been named the Northeast Conference, NEIBA and ECAC Player of the Week, the leagues announced on Monday afternoon.

McCarthy enjoyed a stellar week in helping the Bulldogs go 4-1 overall. He started all five games and hit .421 (8-for-19) with three doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and five runs scored. McCarthy posted a 1.053 slugging percentage and hit safely in all five games.

After collecting a hit and a run scored in a mid-week win over URI, McCarthy exploded in a four-game NEC series against Fairleigh Dickinson. He produced three RBI in Bryant's 6-2 victory in game one and doubled in a 10-3 loss in game two.

McCarthy erupted in Sunday's doubleheader, though, going 5-for-10 with a double, three home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored in the two games. He hit a two-run home run and drove in three in the first game and then hit two more home runs, drove in a season-high four runs and collected a career-high four hits in the second game. It was the first multi-home run game of McCarthy's career and gives him 14 in two-plus seasons.

The Bulldogs return to the diamond on Wednesday when they wrap up a six-game road trip at regional rival Connecticut. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at J.O. Christian Field.
