NATIONAL PITCHER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball sophomore James Karinchak (Walden, N.Y.) has been named to the initial watch list for the 2016 National Pitcher of the Year Award, presented by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.

Karinchak becomes the first Bulldog pitcher to ever to be named to the watch list and is one of three hurlers from New England to make the initial list. He joins Boston College's Jacob Stevens and Northeastern's Aaron Civale on the watch list. There are 72 pitchers listed in the release.

Bryant's Friday starter, Karinchak is 7-1 with a 1.40 ERA, 61 strikeouts and just 21 walks in 51 1/3 innings. He has allowed 33 hits and is holding opponents to a .183 average. Karinchak ranks third in the country in victories, 21st in ERA, 33rd in hits allowed per nine and 52nd in strikeouts. He has struck out at least six batters in all but one of his starts and tied the Bryant DI record with 13 punch outs against George Mason on Mar. 4. In his fist four Northeast Conference starts, Karinchak is 4-0 with a 0.64 ERA, 33 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 28 innings.

Karinchak and the Bulldogs host Stony Brook in a three-game series this weekend at Conaty Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
