Cellucci named to Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award Watch List

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball senior Dan Cellucci (Sudbury, Mass.) has been named to the initial 2016 watch list for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award, the College Baseball Hall of Fame announced on Thursday.

Cellucci is one 55 shortstops across the country to be named to the watch list. He is one of only two shortstops in New England to earn recognition, joining Quinnipiac's Matt Batten.

Bryant's everyday shortstop this season, Cellucci is enjoying the best season of his career right now. He is hitting a career-high .319 with four doubles, 11 RBI, 26 runs scored a .393 OBP and just seven errors in 146 fielding chances. Since an 0-for-4 day on Mar. 6 dropped his average to .111, Cellucci has hit .410 (34-83) with 21 runs scored and a .468 OBP over his last 24 games. He is now third on the team in batting and is fourth in runs scored. Defensively, Cellucci is fielding at a .952 clip right now and has a career fielding percentage of .945.

Cellucci and the Bulldogs wrap up their three-game series with Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon at Conaty Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
