Albanese and Theetge earn NEC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Matt Albanese (East Haddam, Conn.) and freshman Steve Theetge (Cicero, N.Y.) have been named the Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week after helping the Bryant University baseball team sweep Stony Brook over the weekend.

Albanese earns his second honor of the year, while Theetge picks up his first rookie of the week accolade.

In four games last week, Albanese hit .467 (7-for-15) with a double, three home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored and a 1.133 slugging percentage. He collected a hit in all four games and also scored at least one run in all four contests. Albanese opened the week with his second multi-home run game of the season at Northeastern, going 2-for-3 with five RBI. He hit his ninth home run, drove in two and scored twice in Bryant's series opening victory over Stony Brook and then drove in two and scored two more runs in Saturday's 8-4 win. Albanese now leads the NEC in RBI (42), runs scored (40) and home runs (9).

Theetge turned in his longest outing of the year on Sunday to help the Black and Gold sweep the Seawolves. He worked a season-high 6 2/3 innings and allowed just one run on six hits. Theetge walked two and struck out two and has now allowed one run or less in each of his last three starts.

The Bulldogs open a busy six-game week with a short trip to Providence to take on Brown. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
