Karinchak named a Perfect Game/Rawlings All-American

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball sophomore James Karinchak (Walden, N.Y.) has been named a Perfect Game/Rawlings Second Team All-American, it was announced on Monday afternoon.

Karinchak becomes the first player in Division I program history to earn All-American honors from Perfect Game and Rawlings, and has now earned honors from three different outlets. He was named an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Second Team All-American last week and a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper All-American prior to the NCAA Tournament. 

Bryant's Friday night starter, Karinchak turned in the best season for a starting pitcher in program history. He won a school-record 12 games and struck out a school-record 112 batters in 94 2/3 innings. Karinchak finished 12-3, allowed just 70 hits and walked only 20 on the year. He is one of only two pitchers to win 10+ games in a single season in DI program history and he is the first player in school history to strikeout 100+ batters in a single season. Karinchak won his first three starts of the year and started the season 9-1. In his final outing of the season, Karinchak allowed one run on three hits and struck out eight over 6 1/3 innings against eventual regional champion East Carolina.
