Bulldogs visit former NEC foe Quinnipiac on Tuesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team travels to Hamden, Conn., on Tuesday afternoon to face former Northeast Conference foe Quinnipiac. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

PROBABLE PITCHERS

Chris Wright (0-4, 11.25) vs. TBA

Wright gets the ball just three days after starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against LIU Brooklyn. The start didn't go as planned for Wright as he allowed three runs on three hits and walked two batters in one just one inning. He threw 39 pitches in the outing.

SERIES HISTORY

Bryant owns the all-time series against Quinnipiac, winning 15 of the 16 meetings. The teams most recently met in 2013, the Bobcats' last season as a member of an NEC member. Bryant swept all four games that weekend, stretching its winning streak at the time to 18 straight. The Bulldogs would go on to win their 19th in a row against Stony Brook, setting a program record that would also stand as the longest winning streak in the country that season.

NOTES AND NOTABLES FOR QUINNIPIAC

The Bulldogs have now won 11 of their last 13 games after starting the season 3-17.

Bryant was 0-31 in games in which they gave up 10+ runs before winning Sunday's series finale, 13-11.

The Black and Gold are hitting .255 as a team over their last 10 games, while their opponents are batting just .215.

Freshman Gaby Cruz (Miami, Fla.) is hitting .419 (13-31) with seven RBI, six runs scored and a .474 OBP over the last 10.

Sophomore Nick Angelini (Bedford, N.H.) and junior Mickey Gasper (Merrimack, N.H.) have both scored 11 runs in the last 10 games and posted OBPs of .488 and .487, respectively.

Gasper, Wright and sophomore Tyler Panno (Rivervale, N.J.) all have 20+ RBI on the season. Gasper leads the team with 26, Wright has 23 and Panno has 20.

Junior Jack Patterson (Suffield, Conn.) earned two saves with four scoreless innings last weekend. He tossed three shutout innings on Friday before pitching a scoreless ninth on Sunday. They were the first two saves of Patterson's career.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS

Quinnipiac enters Tuesday's game having lost eight of its last nine, including a 4-3 walk-off loss to UConn on Monday afternoon. The Bobcats are 11-22 overall and 4-8 in the MAAC. QU is hitting .238 as a team and has posted a 6.08 ERA.

Joseph Burns is hitting .311 with three home runs, Matthew Batten is hitting .286 with 10 stolen bases and Liam Scarfariello has 12 home runs and 23 RBI. Batten is fourth in QU's history with 228 hits and he broke the program's stolen base record with 62.
