Gasper named Cape League's top New England prospect

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball rising senior Mickey Gasper (Merrimack, N.H.) received the Cape Cod Baseball League's John Claffey New England Top Prospect Award on Tuesday night prior to Brewster's final regular-season home game.

The award is named on behalf of late Wareham Gatemen official John J. Claffey and is presented annually to a distinguished player who hails from New England and/or plays for a New England college or university.

Gasper is the first player from Bryant to ever win the award. He has put together an outstanding summer for the Whitecaps, hitting .297 with seven doubles, five home runs, 28 RBI, 28 walks and a .431 OBP. Gasper leads the league in walks, is second in RBI and fourth in OBP. He has posted nine multi-hit games, nine multi-RBI games and reached safely in all but four games in the month of July.

The honor adds to Gasper's impressive resume over the last 12 months. He was named the Futures Collegiate Baseball League MVP last August and the Northeast Conference and ECAC Player of the Year this spring.
