Ciliento, Kelly earn NEC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball sophomore James Ciliento (Mahwah, N.J.) and freshman Shane Kelly (Sewell, N.J.) were both honored with Northeast Conference weekly awards on Monday afternoon.

Ciliento was named NEC Co-Player of the Week for the first time in his career, while Kelly picked up his first-career NEC Rookie of the Week honor. The Bulldogs have now won the NEC's rookie of the week honor each of the four weeks this season.

Bryant's starting right fielder, Ciliento posted three hits in each of the Bulldogs' three games against Big Ten-member Maryland this weekend. He went 9-for-12 with two doubles, two RBI, five runs scored and two stolen bases in the series. Ciliento opened the weekend by going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in Bryant's 7-3 win over the Terrapins. He then went 3-for-3 and tied a career-high with three runs scored on Saturday. Ciliento closed the weekend by going 3-for-4 with a game-tying single in the top of the eighth of an eventual 5-3 loss.

Kelly started all three games at DH against Maryland and finished the series 6-for-11 with a double, home run, five RBI and a .615 OBP. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Friday's victory before going 3-for-4 with a double, his first-career home run and four RBI on Saturday. Kelly singled home a run, doubled home a run and capped his day with a two-run home run to center field in the eighth. On Sunday, Kelly extended his hitting streak to five games with a single in the second. He then came around to score the first run of the game.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to play at Virginia Tech on Wednesday but the game has been canceled due to weather.
