Ward named NEC Co-Rookie of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball redshirt freshman Ryan Ward (Millbury, Mass.) has been named the Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week after his performance against Delaware.

Ward, who picks up his second rookie of the week honor of the season, hit .412 (7-17) with a triple, home run, six RBI and four runs scored in Bryant's four-game series against defending CAA champ Delaware.

Ward made an immediate impact on the series as his grand slam in the fourth inning of game one turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 Bryant lead. It also kick-started 13 unanswered runs for the Black and Gold. In game three of the series, Ward went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Ward saved his best for the finale as he went 4-for-5 with an RBI triple and three runs scored. He singled to open the ninth and then came around to score the game-winning run on a wild pitch to help the Bulldogs secure the series victory.

In addition, senior Mickey Gasper (Merrimack, N.H.) was named an NEC Prime Performer. He went 10-for-18 (.556) with three RBI, four runs scored and a .579 OBP against Delaware. Gasper posted a pair of four-hit games, including a 4-for-4 performance in the series finale.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they visit the University of Hartford. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
