Ward named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball redshirt freshman Ryan Ward (Millbury, Mass.) has been named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week following his performance at UConn and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Ward went 15-for-28 (.536) with five doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, nine runs scored and just one strikeout in five games last week. He is just the fourth player in DI program history to earn the honor, joining James Karinchak (2016, 2017), Matt Albanese (2015) and Kevin Brown (2013).

Ward opened the week with a two-hit performance at regional power UConn before exploding in a four-game sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson. He went 13-for-22 with five doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs scored in four games. Ward opened the series with four hits, including a pair of three-run home runs, and four runs scored. He followed that up with four more hits, another home run and four more RBI in the second game of the series. Ward wrapped up the weekend with three hits and two doubles in game three and two more doubles in game four of the series.

On the week, Ward led off with a hit in four of the five games, with three of the four hits going for extra-bases.

Bryant returns to action on Wednesday when it welcomes Quinnipiac to Conaty Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
