Gasper added to Johnny Bench Award Watch List

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball senior catcher Mickey Gasper (Merrimack, N.H.) has been added to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List.

Gasper is one of 15 catchers that has been added to the watch list at the halfway point of the year. The award is presented by BaseballSavings.com and recognizes the top catcher in the country each year. To date, 112 catchers have been nominated for the award. The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced on May 16.

Bryant's every day catcher for the second-straight season, Gasper is enjoying another outstanding season for the Black and Gold. He has started all 39 games this season, including 28 at catcher. Gasper has reached safely in each of his last 17 games and is now hitting .344 with 11 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 29 RBI and a team-high 41 runs scored. He also leads the team with 24 walks and has posted a .457 OBP.

Defensively, Gasper has committed just two errors in 253 total chances, a .992 fielding percentage. He has also thrown out 10 players trying to steal this year.

Gasper is the reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Year and the reigning All-NEC First Team catcher.
