McGill, Schoff take home NEC honors

SOMERSET, N.J. – Bryant University baseball grad student Liam McGill and senior Tyler Schoff were recognized by the Northeast Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

McGill was named the NEC Co-Player of the Week, while Schoff was named the NEC Rookie of the Week.

McGill reached base multiple times and scored at least one run in all four of Bryant's games last week. The veteran first baseman batted .563 (9-for-16) with two home runs, two walks, eight RBI and right runs scored. He totaled six hits, seven RBI and six runs during the Bulldogs' three-game NEC sweep at Mount St. Mary's. McGill homered twice in the series opener – a 15-2 triumph. His two-run first-inning bomb gave Bryant a 3-0 lead and his three-run blast made it 14-2 in the seventh frame. McGill opened the scoring in the series' middle game, leading off Bryant's three-run second inning by walking. He also singled, stole second base and came around to score again in the eighth inning of the Bulldogs' 7-2 win. In the finale, McGill logged one hit, one walk, one RBI and one run scored.

Schoff took the ball for the middle game against Mount St. Mary's and logged 7.0 scoreless innings to earn a 7-2 victory. Pitching to an 0.71 WHIP, the senior right-hander allowed only five hits and no walks. He fanned eight batters, including a strike out of the side in the second frame. Schoff finished strong, working around a seventh-inning lead-off double and retiring three batters in a row. After firing 61 strikes in an 81-pitch outing, he handed a 7-0 lead over to the bullpen.

Bryant returns to the diamond this week with a three-game series at Conaty Park against Wagner.
