Bryant swept by Longwood on Friday

Farmville, Va. – The Bryant University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Longwood, 4-0 and 5-4, on Friday afternoon.

Bryant and Longwood will complete their series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Key Moment (Game 1)

  • Longwood plated a pair of runs to open up a 3-0 lead after three innings.                   

How it Happened (Game 1)

  • An RBI ground out opened the scoring in the first. The Lancers would then score twice in the third on a fielder's choice and a two-out double.
  • Longwood closed the scoring with an unearned run in the eighth.     

Key Moment (Game 2)

  • Bryant loaded the bases with one out in the ninth but could not push across the tying run.                    

How it Happened (Game 2)

  • Logan Allen got the Bulldogs going, opening the game with a walk. He would steal second and come around to score on a sac fly from Derek Smith.
  • Shane Kelly pushed the lead to 2-0 with an RBI double in the second.
  • Longwood would take the lead with three RBI singles in the bottom of the third.
  • The Lancers extended the lead to 4-2 with a two-out single in the third.
  • Smith then doubled, advanced to third on a failed pickoff and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.
  • Longwood would answer with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Damaurys Rodriguez brought Bryant back within a run with an RBI single in the seventh.
  • The Black and Gold then loaded the bases in the ninth but Tolson got a strikeout and a fly out to end the game.
