Bryant wins sixth straight, beats Brown 9-6

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team used a six-run fifth inning to push past Brown, 9-6, on Saturday afternoon at Murray Stadium.

With the win, the Bulldogs have now won six-straight games and move back to .500 at 7-7.

John Hosmer and Carmine Petosa each drove in a pair of runs, while Derek Smith and Gavin Noriega each scored twice. Ken Turner and Brett Wichrowski combined on the mound, with Turner tossed 5.0 innings to earn his second win. Wichrowski pitched the final 4.0 to earn his first save.

  • Bryant plated six runs in the top of the fifth to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 9-4 lead.

How it Happened

  • Brown broke through first with three runs in the second. Two scored on a two-out double.
  • Bryant answered in the top of the third, scoring three times. Noriega brought home the first run with a single up the middle and Hosmer followed with an RBI single to left. Bryant tied the game on a dropped third strike wild pitch.
  • Brown retook the lead the following inning with a fielder's choice.
  • In the fifth, Gustin doubled and came around to score the first run on an error. Hosmer then doubled off the center field wall to plate the second run. Petosa then snuck a double inside the first base bag to score a pair. A pair of infield ground outs plated the final two runs of the inning.
  • Brown was able to score a pair of runs in the ninth but Wichrowski closed the door on the rally.

  • Turner allowed four runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out four over 5.0 innings.
  • Wichrowski earned a save with 4.0 innings of two-run relief. He walked one and struck out two.
