Noriega, Baruch homer but Bulldogs drop finale with Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Gavin Noriega and Daniel Baruch both homered but the Bryant University baseball team dropped its series finale with Maryland, 11-7, on Sunday.

Bryant falls to 1-7 following the loss. The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Merrimack on Wednesday at Conaty Park.

Noriega hit his sixth home run of the season, while Baruch hit his first home run as a Bulldog.

How it Happened

  • Maryland grabbed the lead with a two-out single in the first.
  • Bryant was able to tie the game in the second on a sac fly from Evan Blake.
  • Noriega then gave Bryant a 3-1 lead with a towering two-run shot in the third. He squared around to bunt but pulled back and sent a first-pitch fastball over the wall in center.
  • Maryland would tie the game with two runs in the fourth. The Terps would then score twice in the fifth and four times in the sixth to take a 9-3 lead.
  • Bryant would answer with four runs in the top of the seventh to make it 9-7. Petosa would score on a wild pitch and Noriega scored on a run down. Grady was then hit by a pitch and Baruch greeted the new Maryland pitcher with a two-run tank to left center.
  • Maryland would add two insurance runs in the 8th to hold on for an 11-7 victory.
