Bulldogs' streak snapped Tuesday at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – In a matchup of two of the region's winningest programs, the Bryant baseball team spotted the University of Connecticut four early unearned runs in a 12-1 loss on a warm Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.

The loss snaps the Bulldogs' eight-game winning streak and drops them to 19-11 overall. Bryant begins a seven-game homestand on Friday as it welcomes Binghamton to Conaty Park for an America East series. Entering the day, UConn and Bryant ranked 1-2 among Northeast programs in wins since the start of 2009.

Bryant committed a pair of early errors on Tuesday that led to a single run in the first and three more UConn runs in the second. The early runs held up as four Huskie pitchers limited Bryant to one run on four hits.

How it Happened

  • Scheidt hit the first batter of the game and an errant pickoff throw moved him to third. Three batters later, an infield single made it 1-0.
  • In the second, a throwing error and a walk put two on with one out. Jake Studley's 2-run single on a 3-2 pitch and Bryan Padilla's RBI single made it 4-0.
  • The Huskies extended their lead in the third as Luke Broadhurst led off with a home run to left center.
  • Bryant got on the board in the fourth as Durand singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored as Petosa singled up the middle.
  • The Huskies put the game away with a single run in the sixth, four more in the seventh and two in the eighth. Broadhurst's second home run ended the game via run rule.
