Bryant visits URI on Tuesday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant baseball team wraps up its home-and-home with in-state rival Rhode Island on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field in Kingston.

Bryant won the first leg of the two-game series, 8-7, last Tuesday at Conaty Park. The Bulldogs are a perfect 5-0 against in-state foes Brown (4-0) and URI (1-0) this season.

Probable Starting Pitchers 

Toby Scheidt vs TBA

• Scheidt will make his third midweek start of the year on Tuesday. He also started against Brown (3.0IP, 0R, 0H) and UConn (1.1IP, 3UE, 1H).
• Scheidt earned the victory in last week's midweek vs URI, tossing a scoreless eighth inning to keep the game tied at 7-7. 
• On the season, the righty is 3-2 with a 1.93 ERA in 14.0 innings.

Bryant vs. URI

• Bryant owns a 15-10-1 lead in the all-time series with URI. The Bulldogs earned an 8-7 victory last Tuesday and have won 5-of-6 against the Rams.
• Last Tuesday, Matt Smith tied the game at 7-7 with a seventh-inning grand slam and Carmine Petosa gave the Bulldogs the lead with an eighth-inning solo shot as Bryant rallied to beat the Rams. 

Bulldog Notes and Notables

• Bryant enters the week 25-12 overall following a series victory over UMass Lowell. The Black and Gold are 24-5 since starting the year 1-7. Bryant has won each of its last seven weekend series and is 5-4 in midweek contests.
• Bryant enters the week ranked fourth in the league in hitting (.268) and first in ERA (4.82). Bryant pitchers have struck out 274 batters. 
• Offensively, the Bulldogs lead the league in home runs (49), slugging (.464) and stolen bases (39). 
• Carmine Petosa has reached safely in all 37 games this season and his on-base streak sits at 40 dating back to last year. The streak is the longest by a Bulldog since Chris Wright reached safely in 42-straight in 2019. Petosa is hitting .282 with 11 doubles, six home runs, 32 RBI, 35 runs scored and a .458 OBP. He hit a game-winning solo home run last Tuesday and a game-tying two-run double on Sunday. Both came in the eighth.
• Gavin Noriega has reached safely in all but one game this season and enters the week with a .336/.469/.730  slash. He leads the league in runs scored (40), RBI (40) and home runs (14). Noriega's 14 home runs are the most in a single season in DI program history and are tied for the most in a single season in program history. He has six home runs in his last nine games.
• Zac Zyons brings a 17-game on-base streak into the weekend. He has 10 multi-hit games over his last 14. He homered twice over the weekend and is hitting .463 (25-54) with a .500 OBP in the month of April.
• Matt Smith is hitting .485 with five doubles and 15 RBI in 10 April games.
• Zach Nichols leads the league with eight saves. He ranks fifth nationally.
