Former NFL All-Pro Joins Bryant Staff

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University eighth-year head football coach Marty Fine is pleased to announce the addition of former Hofstra and NFL Pro-Bowl standout Lance Schulters to the coaching staff for 2011. Schulters, who will coach the team's defensive backs this season, comes to Bryant after 10 successful seasons as an All-Pro Safety with the San Franciso 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons.

A graduate of Canarsie High School in Brooklyn where he played for legendary coach Mike Camardese, Schulters would play two seasons at Nassau Community College before transferring to Hofstra University where he was a two-year starter in 1996-97.

Drafted by the 49ers in the fourth round of the 1998 draft, Schulters played his first four years in the NFL with San Franciso after earning the starting free safety position after the first week of the 1999-2000 season. He had six interceptions in 1999 including a 64-yard interception returned for the game-winning touchdown against New Orleans. For his efforts, Schulters was selected to the NFL's Pro Bowl in Honolulu that year.

After another All-Pro season in 2002, Schulters would sign with Tennessee where he would play three seasons with the Titans before moving for brief stints with the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons.

Bryant University, a member of the Northeast Conference,  enters its fourth season competing at the Division I Football Championship Subdivision level in 2011.   The Bulldogs, coming off a 7-4 season a year ago, are currently underway with spring practice with the annual Black & Gold Spring Football game scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at Bulldog Stadium (12 pm).
