Covitz named an ECAC All-Star

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior defensive end Jeff Covitz (Reading, Mass.) was recognized as an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-Star, adding to the list of individual honors he has received this postseason.

The 2014 Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, a Third Team AP All-American and a Third Team College Sports Madness All-American, Covitz is one of five players from the NEC recognized by a vote of representatives from ECAC Division I FCS institutions.

Villanova quarterback John Robertson was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and Bucknell linebacker was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. Fordham running back Chase Edmonds took home offensive rookie of the year honors, while Duquesne linebacker Nathan Stone was named the defensive rookie of the year. New Hampshire's Sean McDonnell was named the coach of the year.

Covitz, a three-time First Team All-NEC and All-New England selection, finished his senior season with 59 tackles, eight sacks and a program-record 23 tackles for a loss. He became the NECs and Bryant's all-time leader in career sacks with 29.5. Covitz finished his career with 191 tackles and 66 tackles for a loss in 45 career games. He played in every possible game over his four-year career.
