Bulldog football faces No. 15 Coastal Carolina Saturday in South Carolina

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team travels to South Carolina on Saturday to No. 15 Coastal Carolina at Brooks Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Series History

Saturday's game will be the second between the two programs. The two teams met for the first time last year, a 31-17 victory for then-No. 1 Coastal Carolina. It was Bryant's first-ever game against the nation's top-ranked team and the Bulldogs took a 17-17 tie into halftime. The Chanticleers, however, held the Black and Gold scoreless in the second half. Bryant held a 10-0 lead at the beginning of the game thanks to a 50-yard touchdown reception by Matt Sewall (Portsmouth, R.I.) and a field goal from Ricky Perez (Miami, Fla.).

Notes and Notables for Week 11

Bryant will be looking for its road win of the season on Saturday afternoon in Conway, S.C. The Bulldogs went 4-1 at home this year but are winless (0-4) away from Smithfield.

The Bulldogs will be facing a nationally-ranked opponent for the sixth time since moving to the Division I ranks in 2008. Bryant is 2-3 in those games, posting wins over Robert Morris (2010) and Maine (2014).

For the second-straight week the Black and Gold will be facing a team that has injury issues at quarterback. Robert Morris has used five and Coastal Carolina has had seven different players take snaps at some point this season.

Bryant's defense held RMU to just 98 yards of total offense last week and enters today's game with the 26th-best rushing defense in the country (125.6). The Bulldogs will be facing a Coastal Carolina team that has rushed for 300+ yards in each of the last two games.

A week after his classmate Marquise Watson (Hillside, N.J.) set the program record for career tackles, Dalton Easton (Miami, Fla.) heads south with the chance to break the program's all-time passing record. He has thrown for 6,842 yards in his career, just 142 yards shy of Charlie Granatell's record of 6,984.

A bit about the Chanticleers

Coastal Carolina is in the first year of a two-year transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of college football. The Chanticleers are playing the 2016 season as an FCS Independent and will play a full FBS schedule as a member of the Sun Belt Conference next fall. Coastal Carolina's two losses this season have come by a single point to a pair of top-10 ranked teams in Charleston Southern and Jacksonville State. The Chanticleers are averaging 243 rushing yards per game on offense and the defense has forced 21 turnovers this season.
