Bryant, Wagner meet Saturday on ESPN3

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team travels to Staten Island this weekend to face Wagner in the Northeast Conference game of the week on ESPN3. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Series History

  • Bryant and Wagner will be meeting for the 10th time in program history on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Bulldogs own a 6-3 lead in the all-time series and have won three of the last four meetings.
  • Last season, the Black and Gold used a 97-yard kick return by then-junior Matt Sewall (Portsmouth, R.I.) to start the second half and then held on for a 27-17 victory in Smithfield.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs will be in search of their first NEC win this weekend, following losses to Saint Francis U and Central Connecticut. It is the first time they have started 0-2 in league play since 2012.
  • Bryant has returned a kickoff for a touchdown against Wagner in back-to-back seasons. Jose Depadua accomplished the feat in 2015, while Sewall returned a kick for a score last fall.
  • Redshirt sophomore Jean Constant (Delray Beach, Fla.) became the 10th different player in program history to record 1,000+ all-purpose yards in a single season. He ranks fourth nationally with 162.14 AP yards per game (1,135 total).
  • Sewall became the eighth player in program history to record over 1,000 receiving yards in a career last weekend. He has 1,049 receiving yards, placing him seventh in program history.
  • Sophomore Jesse Nemerowicz (Hudson, Mass.) has made 10+ tackles in each of the last two games. He now has recorded 10+ tackles six times in his career.

A bit about the Seahawks

  • The Seahawks enter with a 2-5 record and are 0-3 in league play. They have lost to Saint Francis U, Duquesne and Central Connecticut.
  • Wagner is averaging 314 yards of offense per game, while opponents are putting up 375 yards per game.
  • The Seahawks have been without all-league QB Alex Thomson since the second game of the season. Luke Massei has thrown for 822 yards and four scores in his place.
  • Ryan Fulse leads the team with 87.6 rushing yards per game.
  • On defense, Quintin Hampton leads the team with 60 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss and six sacks this season.
  • Wagner has 18 sacks and 11 interceptions this season.
