Costigan becomes fourth AP All-American in program history
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football linebacker Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) was named an Associated Press Third Team All-American on Wednesday following a magical junior season.
Costigan becomes just the fourth AP All-American in program history and the first since Jeff Covitz in 2014. The only other players to earn AP All-American honors in program history are Covitz, Jordan Harris and Lorenzo Perry.
The All-American honors are the first for Costigan in his career and come after he enjoyed one of the best defensive seasons in program history. He posted 103 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 17 tackles for a loss, four forced fumbles and an interception on his way to Northeast Conference and ECAC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Costigan became just the second player in program history to record 100+ tackles in a single season, tied the program record for sacks and finished the regular season second nationally in sacks per game. He also ranks fourth nationally in force fumbles (0.36) and 11th nationally in tackles for a loss per game (1.5). Costigan had five games with 10+ tackles, including a career-high 16 tackles in the final game of the season.
