Bryant visits Sacred Heart in NEC showdown on ESPN3

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team returns to Northeast Conference play this weekend as it travels to Fairfield, Connecticut, to take on Sacred Heart. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:04 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Saturday's game will be streamed live on ESPN3 as part of the NEC's football package.

Series History

  • Bryant and Sacred Heart will be meeting for the 11th time in program history on Saturday.
  • The Bulldogs have won each of the last two meetings, tying the all-time series at 5-5. 
  • Last season, Bryant erased an eight-point third-quarter deficit with 27-straight points and then held on for a 48-45 victory in Smithfield.
  • Redshirt senior Price Wilson (Marietta, Ga.) set a program and NEC record with six touchdown passes in last year's game.   

20th Season of Bryant Football

  • Bryant Athletics is celebrating the "20th Season of Bryant Football" in 2018-19.
  • The Bulldogs began the program in 1998 and played their first varsity season in 1999.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 5-2 overall record and a 2-1 mark in NEC play.
  • Bryant picked up a 42-41 victory over Fordham last Saturday. Sophomore Luke Samperi (Beverly, Mass.) kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give the Bulldogs the victory. 
  • Samperi's game-winning field goal is the first walk-off score in program history and was also his first-career field goal. Samperi was named the NEC Special Teams Player of the Week.
  • Bryant broke out of a two-game offensive slump at Fordham, posting a program-record 628 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs had been held under 300 yards in the two previous outings.
  • Bryant ranks second in the NEC in scoring offense (32.1) and total offense (438.0). 
  • Wilson completed 30+ passes for the fourth time in his career last Saturday, finishing with 380 passing yards, the fourth-most in a single-game in program history. 
  • Wilson enters Saturday as the NEC leader in passing yards (1,992) and passing touchdowns (17).
  • Senior Tom Kennedy (Farmingdale, N.Y.) caught a program-record 13 passes for 221 yards, finishing just three yards shy of the single-game program record. 
  • Redshirt sophomore Alfred Dorbor (Pawtucket, R.I.) led a strong rushing attack, posting 116 yards and two touchdowns. It was his first-career 100-yard game. Dorbor now leads the team with five rushing TDs.
  • Senior Vincent Nisivoccia (Nutley, N.J.) is Bryant's leading receiver after posting nine catches for 104 yards and two scores at Fordham. He has 37 catches for 462 yards and five TDs.
  • Classmate Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) had 12 tackles last week and leads the team with 69 stops. Costigan also posted his 12th career forced fumble, the most of any active FCS player.
  • Junior Robert Brown (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) has posted 35 tackles, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and a fumble return TD in the last four games. 
  • Classmate Tomas Wright (St. Augustine, Fla.) posted two sacks at Fordham and now leads the country in sacks (9.5) and is second in TFLs (14.5). The program record for sacks in a season is 11.5.

A bit about the Pioneers

  • Sacred Heart enters the weekend at 4-3 overall and 2-0 in NEC play. The Pioneers are the only unbeaten team remaining in the NEC. 
  • The Pioneers picked up a 28-25 victory over Central Connecticut last Saturday. 
  • SHU won back-to-back league titles in 2013 and 2014. 
  • The Pioneers are averaging 406 yards of total offense per game and are giving up just 377. 
  • Graduate QB Kevin Duke is the reigning NEC Player of the Week after throwing for 374 yards and three TDs at CCSU. 
  • Jordan Meachum is averaging 92 yards per game on the ground, while Andrew O'Neill has 26 catches for 371 yards and three TDs.
  • Chris Agyemang leads the team with 5.5 sacks and 8.5 TFLs.

  • The Bulldogs wrap up their three-game road swing with a trip to Loretto, Pennsylvania, to take on Saint Francis U on Nov. 3.
