Hawkins named wide receivers coach

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University football head coach Chris Merritt announced Joseph Hawkins as the Bulldogs' wide receivers coach on Wednesday, March 4.

Hawkins brings seven years of coaching experience and was a three-time all-conference selection during his playing days.

"We are happy to announce the addition of Joseph Hawkins as our wide receivers coach," Merritt said. "The Chicago native comes to us after playing at Norfolk State and several coaching stops along the east coast. Joseph brings positive energy to our program and will recruit the Delaware, Maryland and Virginia area (DMV)."

Prior to Bryant, Hawkins spent a season as the graduate assistant at Florida International University. He worked with the wide receivers and tight ends, while also recruiting Virginia and North Carolina.

Wilkins spent two seasons as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Warner University prior to his time at Florida International. He also served as the passing game coordinator, coaching three all-conference players in his time.

Before his time at Warner, Wilkins spent 2014-2017 at Pace University where he coached running backs and tight ends. He also served as the co-special teams coordinator for kick off return and punt return.

Hawkins played collegiately at Norfolk State, where he was a three-time all-conference tight end. He ranks as Norfolk State's all-time leader in receptions (92) and yards (1,103) for a tight end in school history. Hawkins was a two-time team captain and was a BSN Third Team All-American in 2013.

The Chicago native graduated with a degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2013 from Norfolk State University.
