Football Captains named for the 2023 Season

SMITHFIELD. R.I. - The Bryant University football team named the captains for the upcoming 2023 season. Kenny Dyson Jr., Darnel Shillingford, Jamichael Watts, Zevi Eckhaus, and Ethan Gettman were selected captains by the team.

Dyson was selected to the All-Big South First Team and All-New England teams after recording 29 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and 11.5 TFLs. He ranked 14th nationally in sacks per game.

Shillingford was named to the College Sports Communicators All-District Team. He appeared in all 11 games, tallying 32 tackles, including a career-high seven tackles vs. Charleston Southern.

Watts was a part of the offensive line that helped set a program record for total offense and an average of 30+ ppg for the second straight year. He also earned All-Big South Second Team honors.

Eckhaus had a career year in 2022, registering a 60% completion percentage (253-of-416), 3,228 passing yards, and 26 TDs. He is the second quarterback in program history to throw for 3,000+ yards. He ranked fourth nationally in total offense with 3,393 yards.

Gettman received the Fred Mitchell Award, given to the most outstanding placekicker. He converted a single-season record 14 FGs, along with going 40-of-42 on extra points for a total of 82 points.
