Eckhaus, Frederick lift Bryant past Lindenwood, 38-3, on Saturday

ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Bryant University football team defeated Lindenwood 38-3 in the road victory on Saturday.

Zevi Eckhaus threw for 367 yards and four TDs. Anthony Frederick caught three of those touchdowns and added eight catches for 131 yards. Jalen Powell recorded a receiving TD, and Matthew Prochaska had seven catches for 82 yards.

Olatunde Mkparu and Sean Hunt tallied an interception, and Christopher Eaton Jr. forced a fumble.

Dontae Lunan, Kenny Dyson Jr., and Beau Shugarts registered a sack.

  • The Black and Gold scored 21 straight points before the Lions tallied their first points of the game.

How it Happened

  • On the first drive of the game, the Bulldogs marched down the field behind rushes from Fabrice Mukendi and catches from Jalen Powell and Matthew Prochaska. The drive was capped off by a 42-yard bomb to Frederick for the score (7-0).
  • After the Bryant defense forced a three and out, a short punt placed the Black and Gold on the opponent's 16-yard line. This led to a 14-yard catch from Javin Dames, getting the Bulldogs within the five. Eckhaus then found Frederick for his second score of the half (14-0).
  • Bryant then drove down the field, with the drive starting from its own 22. The Black and Gold tallied another TD on a one-yard Clark rush (21-0).
  • The Lions responded with their first points of the contest on a 35-yard FG.
  • Eckhaus and Frederick then connected for the third time in half, this time a 24-yard over-the-shoulder toss in the back corner of the endzone (28-3).
  • Bryant began the final drive of the half on its own 20-yard line, with two minutes remaining. Eckhaus hit a pass to AC White for 20 yards and Frederick for 19, setting up Ethan Gettman for a 43-yard FG to close the half (31-3).
  • Eckhaus tossed his fourth TD of the game to Jalen Powell, making the score 38-3 to end the third quarter (38-3).

  • Bryant picked up its first win over Lindenwood in its first meeting against the Lions.

  • A week after becoming Bryant's all-time passing leader, Eckhaus inched closer to the program record for touchdown passes. He now has 68 in his career, two shy of the record.
  • Eckhaus has posted 20+ touchdown passes in all three seasons at Bryant, joining Dalton Easton as the only QBs to do so.
  • Eckhaus has now thrown for 1,501 (300/game) yards, 16 touchdowns and just two interceptions in league play. 
  • Frederick became the first player since Landon Ruggieri to catch three TDs in a game. Ruggieri did it in the final game of 2022. It's just the second time it's happened since 2018. 
  • Frederick also moved into a tie for second all-time with Matt Tracey for career touchdown receptions. He has 19 in his career. 
  • Frederick also moved into third all-time in receptions with 133. 
  • Frederick now has 1,975 career receiving yards, moving within 25 of becoming just the third player in school history to surpass 2,000.
  • Frederick now has 3,602 career all-purpose yards, becoming just the fourth player in school history to surpass 3,500 yards.
  • Clark notched his team-leading sixth rushing touchdown of the year. He now has 17 in his career, tying him for sixth all-time with Hall-of-Famer Jerell Smith.
  • With his TFL, Otty now has a team-leading 10.5 on the year.
  • Dyson Jr. now lead the team with 7.0 sacks on the year. He has 23.5 in his career, putting him fourth all-time. Dyson Jr. also moves into ninth all-time with 33.0 career TFLs.
  • Bryant's defense has forced a TO in every game this year.
  • Mkparu's interception was his first career INT.
  • Hunt now has two interceptions on the season. 
  • Powell's touchdown reception was his fourth of the year.
