Bulldogs fall at Brown, 3-0, Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite outshooting its opponents, 12-10, the Bryant University field hockey team fell to Brown, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Goldberger Field.

The Bears (1-0) pick up the victory in their season opener despite posting less shots and penalty corners than the Bulldogs (0-4) who wrap up week two of the regular season still in search of win number one.

After 30 minutes of scoreless play, Brown's Megan O'Donnell put home her first of the season at the 30:27 mark from just in front of the cage to put the hosts up 1-0 heading into halftime.

Just out of the break, O'Donnell found Emily Arciero at the 39:16 mark to double Brown's advantage, 2-0, before the Bears added the third and final score off the afternoon on a Jaclyn Torres marker at the 58:01 mark .

The Black and Gold fired off 12 shots, putting six on goal and earned 11 penalty corners  in the contest, five more than the opposition, but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Senior Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) and sophomore Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) accounted for 10 shots on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs will look to regroup over the next five days before returning to action for their home opener on Friday, Sept. 12 vs. UMass Lowell (7 p.m.).
