Bulldogs fall to Tigers in season opener Friday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. –The Bryant University field hockey team dropped to University of the Pacific, 4-0, in the Bulldogs' (0-1) season opener on Friday night.

The Tigers (1-0) were first on the board in the fourth minute when Alicia Muinos finished right corner, firing from the top of the circle off a Savannah Burns assist.

Pacific went up by two after Kyleigh Morrison found Hannah Tvergyak, who hammered home a long low shot into the corner of the cage.

The Tigers scored their third goal of the night in the 17th minute. Leah Cofer dove to finish bottom corner off a Sidney Brooks cross.

Cofer notched her second goal of the night less than a minute later, going unassisted for the tally. Initially blocked, the ball slipped through the pads of Bryant senior goalkeeper Jenna Limone (Branford, Conn.) before resulting in a goal.

Limone played the full match for the Bulldogs, finishing with four saves.

The Black and Gold fired off 13 shots, landing four on goal. Sophomore Anna Kennedy (Macungie, Pa.) led the team in total shots, tallying six on the game, while junior Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) finished with five. Kennedy and Danby each finished with two shots on goal.

Senior Bronwyn Walton (North Vancouver, B.C.) notched two shots of her own.

The Bulldogs continue their California campaign, taking on California (Berkeley) Sunday, August 30 in Palo Alto (Stanford) at 1 p.m. ET.
